Private Schools

If you’re looking for another option of schooling for your child, then you may want to consider private schools. The good news is that there is a wealth of wonderful private schools in the area.

One such educational facility is Carolina Day School, located in Asheville. “Carolina Day School is the only non-sectarian pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade school in Asheville,” said Robin Goertz, director of admissions for the school. “Because we do not have a religious affiliation, we invite students from all backgrounds and religions. We believe that through the strength of our curriculum and program, we prepare our students for college well.”

Carolina Day School has a total enrollment of 662 and 93 full-time teachers. One hundred percent of its graduates attend college, and the school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

“We recognize that, as Thomas Friedman has so eloquently written, ‘the world is flat,’ and we are expanding our curriculum to be more global in nature,” Goertz said. “This year, for example, we have added Mandarin Chinese in our Upper School and a Chinese Club in the Lower and Middle School. We want to look globally, but not forget that we live in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, so this year we have also tried to get our students outside more, through classroom activities, community service and even building forts in Kindergarten! We are looking at ways to make our campus more “green” and to help keep our students aware of their responsibility to our environment. Our literature says that we ‘discover the promise, inspire the journey, and celebrate the achievement’ of each student. We believe that our responsibility to each student is to follow that philosophy, and to make sure that our administrators, faculty and staff constantly check to ensure that we are doing just that in the best way possible.”
